Sustainability - Road to the Future
At ZedEvents, we understand the direct link between a happy and healthy work environment and a successful outcome for our clients. We strive to apply this thinking to all our supplier and service provider choices, so that we can be confident that our events are good for our clients, and for everyone involved.
We work closely with suppliers and service providers to create sustainable events. For example we look for:
-
food and beverage suppliers that accommodate special needs and requests
-
firms that meet local, seasonal and organic requirements within an exciting and memorable food and drink experience
-
venue suppliers with strategies around waste management, efficient lighting and air handling, and use of porcelain dishware and water jugs and glasses
In-house, we:
-
recycle and “pre-cycle” to reduce paper and office supplies
-
stream fewer materials to garbage
-
reduce the amount of paperwork that gets printed and circulated
-
handle lighting and energy use
-
compost organics created both at the office, and at our clients’ events
We telecommute and use conference calling, letting us meet client needs while maintaining a balanced work and home life, as well as reducing the number of (carbon) hours spent commuting.
The team from ZedEvents is also involved in giving back to the community through a variety of board and volunteer commitments and sponsorship of local events. We look for opportunities to share our expertise, and recently hosted a high school student for an apprenticeship as part of her co-operative education course.
With these basic steps, we are moving down the path towards a fully sustainable special events program that will allow us to have an impact in this area, so that our clients will be glad they held a ZedEvents-managed conference or event, showcasing the fully sustainable future that lies in store for all Nova Scotians.
